The City of Smiths Station is serviced by the Friendship Fire Department and the Friendship Firefighters Association.

Program Description:

We have approximately 23 members who are afiliated with the department through family members or are under age to be a firefighter. We let anyone between 16 and 18 join our program and give them training on various aspects of the non-firefighting side of being a firefighter. When they turn 18 they become a volunteer firefighter.

Our program incorporates a way for family members to become part of our department without actually fighting fire. Wives can volunteer times on administrative work, fire prevention, and report management. Some volunteers help us test hose, hydrant, and perform maintenance work on our vehicles and stations. These individuals are retired and can't fight fire but want to be active in their community. We can always find something for them to do. Most are also CERT members and can be deployed in various capacities and specialties if needed.
